Former diplomat dies at 75
Datuk Ismail Ambia was a diplomat for over 30 years
KUALA LUMPUR: The former ambassador to France Datuk Ismail Ambia died without regaining consciousness on Friday, two days after he suffered a massive stroke. He was 75.
His wife, Toh Puan Siti Ruhani Mohd Yunus, said her husband died of a heart attack at 8am. He was buried at the Bukit Kiara Muslim cemetery.
Ismail, who was a diplomat for more than 30 years, is survived by Siti Ruhani, two sons, a daughter and a granddaughter.
He had served in Portugal, Russia, Kuwait, Austria, Turkey, Cambodia, Bangladesh, the United States and the United Nations.
The diplomat will be remembered as a loving father who liked to spend most of his time with his family.
In an interview a few years ago, Ismail, who is from Rembau, said he always found it hard to be separated from his children when duty called him overseas.
He also described his work as an ambassador as "not merely shuffling papers in the office". (NST Online)
